Breathless.
Heart beating so fast it becomes a long, uninterrupted thump.
Cold, cold hands. Can't feel my fingers.
I think it was a panic attack.
Brought on by nothing.
I puzzle myself.

It sounds like a panic attack to me too. They almost always come out of nowhere in the first place - something as small as a thought can start them off when you've had prolonged stress - like the straw that breaks the camel's back.
They are often brought on by hyperventilation, especially in women as we have long been taught to hold in our stomachs and that's one of the areas that tenses anyway with stress.
Main thing is, don't get worried about the attacks themselves, even if they happen again. It's a sign your body is working, not dying. Then practice gentle, slow, diaphragmatic breathing for five minutes (there'll be instructions on the web, or I can email mine if you need), about five times a day (that's to change your natural way of breathing to a 'normal' one, which will naturally keep you calm). Don't do deep breaths as that blows off carbon dioxide and lack of carbon dioxide is a cause of panic.
If it happens again or you are worried, get in touch, cos I have lots of information I put together that helped me keep mine under control. I rarely get them now, probably less than once a year, (although with last year's traumas I had quite a few!)
It turned into an asthma attack. I'll pm you. x
